Our first fabric: 15oz Kakashibi persimmon warp x awa natural indigo weft

Skein-dyed using natural botanical dyes and weighing in at a hefty 15oz, the denim was woven on vintage looms at the Okamoto Mill in the Tokushima Prefecture, Japan. The mill was founded in 1912, and still performs all processes of denim production from dyeing the yarn to weaving.
Tokushima Prefecture is a major indigo producing area, due to its location in the Yoshino River basin. The Yoshino River is one of Japan's three most turbulent rivers, and is known as one of the " Shikoku Saburo " along with the Bando Taro and Chikushi Jiro . Every time it floods, fertile soil is brought to the area, making it ideal for cultivating natural indigo.

The resulting denim is the most beautiful fabric we have worked with. The rich brown of the persimmon tannin warp is given extra depth by the dark indigo weft. With wear, the jeans will naturally fade, allowing the indigo hues of the weft to come through. Because the fabric was woven on vintage looms working at a slow pace, the denim is slubby with an amazing handfeel.
